Where we work
In 1987 Milieukontakt started its first activities in Poland, supporting the dissident environmental organizations that were very active supporting the upcoming changes in Polish society at that time. Our first programs were mainly support through financial means and information sharing. After Poland countries like Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Russia followed and half way the nineties our activities expanded to Romania and Bulgaria. Programs contained financial support, advise, training, and network development.
Around the year 2000 new countries followed on the Balkans, Albania, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova and in Central Asia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
Beside all the countries mentioned Milieukontakt is currently active in all Western Balkan countries, and on the Caucasus, Georgia. We maintain a number of local offices and has hundreds of partner organizations. In Spring 2008 we started our first activities on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean: Aruba on the Dutch Antilles. Although our focus will be eastward we will welcome requests from other continents.
